Adult Literacy League Launches Summer Campaign
(June 25, 2014 — Orlando, Fla.) The Adult Literacy League (ALL) has launched its Summer Fundraising Campaign, setting its goal at $25,000. The campaign’s end date — September 8, 2014 — coincides with the 47th annual International Literacy Day, set by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO).
The Summer Campaign is a reminder to the community that a literate individual is a better worker, better citizen and better parent.
“The ability to read, write, communicate in English, compute, solve problems and use technology to be a self-sufficient member of our community helps everyone,” says ALL Executive Director Joyce Whidden.
The Summer Campaign fundraiser will help offset expenses incurred by ALL not funded by current earmarked grants and donations. ALL continues to expand by adding more tutors and classes to meet the growing need in the community. In 2013, ALL served more than 2,700 students with 344 tutors; this year, those numbers are estimated to increase to3,000 and 400 respectively.
“Thanks to the community, our strategy to reach more residents who need our services has been successful,” says Whidden. “With that success, comes inevitable growing pains.”
