This week at Trusted Source I had the pleasure of attending two different meetings, one for Downtown South and one for Get Active Orlando. The Downtown South meeting was particularly interesting for me because I was able to sit in on the SCORE Orlando presentation. I had no idea that they offer this entirely free and comprehensive service to people attempting to start their own small businesses. SCORE is able to provide extensive consultation about the ways you can go about starting your own business, all of the financial and legal tasks that must be done, and the most effective and appropriate routes that should be taken to accomplish it. Even more inspiring was that one of the presenters mentioned his experience in helping recently released convicts start their own businesses once they were out. I have a special appreciation for people who are not only able to do great business, but also positively impact the residents of the community in which they function.
The Get Active Orlando meeting was also very interesting. It was held at the Translational Institute for Metabolism and Diabetes. Before the meeting began, we were fortunate enough to participate in a tour of the facility and learn about the research being conducted on patients with diabetes. I have several family members with Type 1 Diabetes and the researcher in me is always enamored with the new medical findings of diabetes treatment. Although some of the studies they are undertaking at the facility sounded a bit extreme to me (and somewhat unethical to be honest) the goal is to find either a diabetes treatment or cure that would benefit everyone that suffers from the condition. Hopefully the facility will come up with some great publishable findings in the near future!
