It’s hard to believe that February has almost come to an end—partly because the month went by fast and also because we have so many exciting upcoming events in March!
I should first start by saying that the OWC Healthy Living Expo was a huge success! We had over 25 exhibitors, 80+ health assessments were done by the UCF College of Nursing and over 300 people attended the event. Additionally, it was a pleasure meeting vendors that I had been in contact with via email and was great networking with local businesses that are health-related. And of course, special thanks must go to our amazing sponsors (VHB, Winter Park Community Center, Winter Park Memorial Hospital and the UCF College of Nursing), vendors, OWC volunteers and City Year volunteers for contributing to the event’s success!
After the Expo, Leah had Molly and I dive right into projects for the Myasthenia Gravis (MG) Walks that will take place throughout Florida in March and April, and the Adult Literacy League’s upcoming “Reading Between the Wines” event. I’ve spent time conducting research on media outlets in Florida cities, updating flyers, recruiting event volunteers, updating promotions plans and tracking potential MG Walk sponsors.
Leah has recently emphasized the importance of Molly and me being familiar with graphic design, press release writing and media relations. Further, our friends Kevin Fritz with Fritz Communications and Chad Cameron, illustrator and graphic designer, graciously hosted public relations and graphic design workshops for Molly and me. Both workshops were extremely insightful and expanded my communications knowledge. Below is a photo that was taken during our workshop with Kevin:
Until next time,
