Downtown South Captures Two Orlando Main Street Awards
ORLANDO, Fla. (November 4, 2013) – Downtown South, established in 2008 by Mayor Buddy Dyer as one of eight Orlando Main Street districts, was honored with two Main Street Awards for Organization and Business Development.
The eight Main Street districts, part the National Main Street program to help neighborhoods retain existing businesses and attract new ones by way of revitalization support from the city, competed in the second annual Orlando Main Street Awards , which were presented last month at Orlando City Hall.
Downtown South’s Organization Award stemmed from the group’s Advocate Program that created a successful transitioning liaison between new and current members. This was the second consecutive Organization Award for Downtown South. Its Business Development Award was in recognition of its Property Showcase, a hands-on educational tool for the brokerage and Realtor community about the Downtown South market, highlighting available properties for sale or lease. As a result of this Property Showcase, seven properties were leased.
“We are humbled and honored to be recognized for our initiatives,” says Downtown South Chair Chere R. Roane of Nicole & Hudson Realty.
Other Competitive Awards were presented to Thornton Park in the Promotions category and the Design Award went to College Park.
Non-Competitive Awards were also presented to each district. Downtown South received Volunteer of the Year (Pam Shaw), Merchant/Business of the Year (Old Florida National Bank) and Private Investment of the Year: Lake Beauty Park (Orlando Health).
Downtown South is one of eight Orlando Main Street programs initiated by Mayor Buddy Dyer and established in 2008. The area encompasses Orange Avenue from Gore on the North to Pineloch on the South and Michigan Street from Osceola on the East and Division on the West.
